So with being pregnant comes some limitations on my exercising and some new things to incorporate! I was most concerned with my ability to do cardio since that is what I seem to lost fastest when I am not able to run – makes sense, right? I needed to find the best gym equipment available to me for my situation.
I was told to try some rowing exercises. Some what? Yes, some rowing exercises. This would have never crossed my mind, but think about it – this will wind you, use your legs and contain no jarring movements to the body.
Enter rowing: “Rowing has long been recognized as the most complete aerobic exercise Works 84% of the muscle mass- more than any other exercise, rowing recruits all major muscle groups Maximizes gain, minimize time- derive maximum benefit from an all body workout and burn more calories in less time Kind to the body- no impact or load on the joints, suitable for all, young or old, male or female, big or small, fit or unfit Relaxing to the mind- smooth and rhythmical, a joy to use Combines Aerobic and Resistance- unique combination of aerobic and anaerobic benefits.” Information courtesy of http://www.bestgymequipment.co.uk/ While researching rowing on this website I found a neat product called Water Rowers. Check this out! It is really neat! They even have accessories that you can check out HERE - and they have a little of everything – not just stuff for rowers!
Life Fitness also had some great products that could be used like their bike machines. I could sit and stabilize myself with multiple places to put my hands. I would be able to keep my legs in shape for when they were to next to hit the ground. This also allows me to vary my pace – same with rowing – and perform HIIT and continue to keep the jarring movements out of my routing. I can’t believe that these are machines that I have access to but walk by all the time and then pout when I feel like I can’t keep my cardio up! I can even track myself with the displays so that I can chart a course and go on my ride. Since I am in an actual seat there will be no uncomfortable feeling of a bike ride while pregnant. Lets face it – that is a plus!
So what are some ways you vary things up during injury, sickness, or pregnancy?
