It’s All Coming Together #IWILL

It’s all coming together. Finally. It took a minute or two – but it is happening.

I have been trying to get my running back on track. I always have run with a group or a partner. I have not been able to find that since I came to Alaska. Nothing that felt right anyways. Nothing like the Brick City Running Tribe or Petra in the mornings. There were willing people, but it wasn’t the fit.

Elizabeth gets me. We click. We both have wants and desires. We needed each other. Thank God above for putting us in the perfect position to get to today.

We discussed running together and doing some other things. We both knew we could push each other. We have that personality and mentality. But it finally clicked. We met up today and drove around base to find places to run in the mornings. We evaluated the ski hill that is now barren for hill sprints. We thought about locations that we could take the kids to, to keep excuses at bay. We figured out which places would have the least probability of us running into bears. #AlaskaProblems

We have two goals to attain.

#1 – to run the airfield – 10 miles around it.

#2 – to run the Big Wildlife Half Marathon in August.

#IWILL

No. I take that back. #WEWILL.

4:30 am on Monday will come quick and early. I have goals though.

Stay tuned…

Keeping Baby Bailey Healthy with Lysol Touch of Foam

With our newest addition of Baby Bailey and the germs of Spring Fever flying around the oldest kids schools – I needed an extra hand in helping combat germs. So we are keeping Baby Bailey healthy with Lysol Touch of Foam

This is product is fantastic for three main reasons:

1 – It smells fantastic – not like alcohol or a hospital

2 – It is full of moisturizer-enriched micro-bubbles that don’t dry your hands out like regular soaps, so our hands don’t get cracked, sore, and red

3 – It kills 99.9% of germs

Not much else I can say folks.

I can tell you I have coupons if you are interested and there are also coupons in your weekly circular right now for $0.75 off!

I am a BzzAgent who received this product for free. The opinions are completely my own and are as real as they get.

Getting My Green On with The Home Depot – Part 1 #DigIn

This year I am going to be getting my green on!

Living up here in Alaska is going to provide me something that North Carolina cannot – gasp, I know!  In North Carolina we struggled to get our lawn green and keep it alive all summer without it burning up. Here, we have the ability to grow lush green grass and with the spring “break-up” upon us (break-up = snow melting and more than the color white is around!) we can start to look at how to prepare our grass for it’s best chance at turning green!

I have been lucky enough to partner up with the SITS Girls and The Home Depot on sharing how you too (of course the exact products needed might vary) can get your lawn to be green this year!  I couldn’t be happier to be a part of this campaign as we are in a new house with a new lawn that we get to tend to this year. I know that sounds silly, but it is the simple things in life that I love and I to be perfectly honest I worked for John Deere and have a thing for the color green. :)

Being in a new place we were very unsure of the simplest thing – what kind of grass do you grow up here? I mean it can’t be like back home – Kentucky Bluegrass anyone?  I think it is mandatory that it is warm to grow that – HA!  How do you get the grass to grow with the permafrost below the top layer of soil? What type of fertilizer is needed? What is best to keep the bears and moose out of my yard? Weed killer – should I think about that too? I knew that the first thing that I needed to do was to call the Home Depot to get an idea of what I was working with.

I went online to The Home Depot website to find the closest location to me and it was literally less than a mile – 0.98 mile away.  I wasn’t kidding – was I?  While I was fining the phone number I saw that I could check the store inventory, the inventory of other local stores, and order online, pay, and pick up at the store later! HOW FANTASTIC FOR A MOM OF BUSY CHILDREN! I couldn’t have been happier to see this, especially if I could not get my husband to go with me later!

When I got on the phone with the store I selected the lawn and garden department and spoke with Amanda about how I was new to Alaska and yard work, I had no clue what I really needed, but I knew I wanted to make my lawn grow and for it be healthy, last all season, be lush, and most importantly = green.  She chuckled with me when I was done and informed me that there was plenty of ways we could make this happen and it was all something that I would be capable of doing and at an affordable cost.  She recommended me taking a good look at my lawn and maybe even taking some pictures of what my yard looks like now and make sure to catch the “problem areas” and come on it. Anyone there would be able to help me she stated.

So that is what I did:

This is my side lawn – you can see where there is some potting soil at the edge of the patio – what for, I don’t know.

Side lawnThe right corner of my lawn - you can see there is some grass growing but it fades to brown and is patchy

right side

This is the middle portion and as you can tell the previous owners had an animal by the looks of the dead “patches”middle

This is the last picture and it is the right back corner – notice the last bit of snow and ice we have?? Oh, and all the brown! left side

I am actually really excited to take these to The Home Depot and see what they can show me in store to make this brown, dead lawn, and green and happy one for the spring and summer months ahead!
